So I’ve got time to kill before we head out for a few shows in Georgia. Since my last post about my gear (seen here: http://mycallandrooz.tumblr.com/post/9415727689/evolution-of-sound ) I’ve added/subtracted and changed it some more.
Last I left off I was running a JCM900 out of a Fender 4x12 and a Madison 4x12. Most of the changes continued to happen to my pedalboard, but most notably is I swapped out the tried and true DD3 with a TC Flashback. The 2290 setting on the Flashback has the most crisp sounding digital delay I have ever heard. I continue to be impressed and amazed by how great it sounds. The volume pedal finally made it’s way into a picture, so great job VP-1.

I enjoyed this set up, but I still hated the JMC900 and while the EQ was doing a pretty swell job making things less sound less shitty, it added a lot of hiss.
Probably around the time I made the last post, I had purchased a Sovtek Mig100 from a friend that needed repaired. Eventually I stopped making excuses and had someone fix it for me and thus ended the reign of shit from the 900. When I moved to the Mig100, I stopped using the Madison cab because it was garbage and the impedance didn’t match. I removed the EQ from the signal chain as well. Happy days. I had to start using a Z-Matcher since my Fender is 16Ω and the Sovtek is 8Ω and I didn’t want to burn my tubes out.

Instagram filters make it way more emotional.
Maybe a month or so ago, I decided I wanted to have an analog sounding delay, but with trails, so I had to give one of the Carbon Copies das boot. I love the sound of the Carbon Copy and it is my favorite delay, but I’m probably the only moron that wants one with a buffered bypass. I sold off one of the CC’s and purchased a second Flashback (the Tape and LoFi settings sound more analog than the analog setting for some reason). I turned on the buffered bypass, and while it’s not perfect, it’s not like anyone else can tell the difference live. In a week time span, I also added a TC Trinity, which is the ProGuitarShop.com exclusive version of the TC Hall of Fame. I never thought I would use another reverb pedal, but the E1 and E2 settings are incredible. As it stands, I wrote a new song based on the E2 alone. I also replaced the TU2, not because I wanted to, but because the idiot that I bought the second Flashback from, accidently sent me a PolyTune. I’ll pay them for it…eventually.

Signal chain: Ernie Ball VP-1 (not pictured) > Keeley TS9 > Polytune > Flashback 1 (buffered/tape setting) > Carbon Copy > Flashback 2 (true bypass, 2290 setting) > Trinity > Headrush (loops) > Mig 100 > Z-Matcher > Fender 4x12 with V30’s.
I also have a second garbage board for my other band (We’re Not Dead). It’s just a TU2 and a TS7. I can no longer play without a tube screamer. The TS7 looks like trash, but it is, from my understanding, the same circuitry as the TS9. It sounds good, it’s always on, and it cost me $25, so fuck it.

Drive before tuner, because that’s what the pompous turds at TheGearPage tell me what to do, so I do it.
Finally, a few days ago, I added a 2x12 to my gear. Having 2 4x12’s are a pain in the ass to move, but as a 3 piece, I needed to add something to my rig. A 2x12 is the happy medium. I have a Avatar Traditional 2x12, closed back, with a V30 and a G-100H. I love the sound of it, and now I need to get off my ass and replace two of the V30’s in my Fender cab with the G-100H’s. I’m very happy with this, at least for now.
